Here we are going to guide you thru the marriage license application.

LET’S START WITH THE BASICS

COST

The marriage license fee is $60.00 (plus $5.00 administrative cost). The fee may be paid online or in person at the time the application is submitted to a marriage license agent.

**Some agents charge an extra $5 Agent fee.

ELIGIBILITY

  • There are no residence (state or U.S. citizenship) requirements.

  • Blood tests are not required.

  • The legal age to marry is 18+ years for both applicants.

  • Proof of age is required;
    A certified copy of a birth certificate for anyone 18 or under y/o,
    or a valid I.D. or driver’s license for anyone 19 or over.

*Previously married, underage, or blood relatives requirements here:

  • If previously married, proof of original divorce decree or death certificate needs to be presented to the marriage agent by the applicant if the divorce or death was final within 30 days of applying for a marriage license.

  • Applicants of 16 or 17 years of age who wish to marry require the written consent of both parents, legal guardian, or the family court. The parents or legal guardian do not have to be residents of the state. Consent forms may be obtained from a marriage license agent.

  • Applicants of 15 years of age who wish to marry require the written consent of both parents or legal guardian, and the written approval of a judge of the family court. The parents or legal guardian do not have to be residents of the state. Consent forms may be obtained from a marriage license agent.

  • Cousins may marry. However, the blood relationship between the prospective applicants cannot be closer than first cousins.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED
BEFORE STARTING THE PROCESS

  • Credit Card

  • Both of your personal, and parent’s information

  • Officiant’s legal name *(provided by us)

  • Ceremony location name *(provided by us)

  • Ceremony date and time

Please, fill out this application as soon as possible since there’s a bit of a processing time and you’ll also need to schedule an appointment with the License Agent.

APPLICATION STEPS

#1 - APPLY FOR MARRIAGE LICENSE ONLINE

  1. Click “Start Application” at the bottom of the site.

  2. Select “Marriage”, and continue.

  3. Fill out all the required personal information.
    *From both of you and your parents.

  4. Fill in the Ceremony Information.
    Date; The actual ceremony must be within 30 days of the license-issued date.
    Name of Performer (Officiant); We should have sent you this information already, if we haven’t, just ask us!
    Select Officiant’s name from the drop-down menu (Usually the “Last Name” is first). If for any reason doesn’t appear, just type it down.

  5. Island; Maui

  6. Place of Ceremony; We should have sent you the appropriate name for your chosen location.

  7. City; Also provided by us, please check that info!

  8. Fill out the rest of the form; Blood relationship, Names published, forwarding address, and contact information.

  9. Declared Middle and Last Name after marriage;
    Enter the declared middle and last names you will be using after the marriage.
    *Place mouse over “?” for information on what you are able to select for your declared middle and last names.
    Enter in the comments field, if necessary, explaining how you determined your declared middle and last names.
    > Please, let your officiant know too, so he knows how to pronounce you at the end of the ceremony!

  10. Confirm your information.

  11. Payment information.
    *
    Credit card only during the pandemic, but you might be able to pay it in person nowadays.

  12. Thank you page;
    Here you’ll find a list of licensed agents on Maui.
    You can see your Locator ID (also known as Authorization Code on your payment receipt), important information, which is needed to access your temporary marriage certificate (available within 3 days after the ceremony).

  13. Download the Application Form, you’ll need it for your agent’s meet-up.


#2 - BOOK AN “IN-PERSON” MEETING

Call an agent from the “Thank you page list” (Also found here, under the “Maui” list), and book a meeting.
*Both applicants must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply for the marriage license.

#3 - BRING A PRINTED FORM TO THE CEREMONY

Sometimes, the officiant receives a copy and we’ll print it out for you, but if for any reason we don’t receive the copy, you should bring a print yourself as safety.

You’ll sign this license right after the ceremony, and the officiant will upload it online.
