OUR FAVORITE MAUI BEACHES FOR ELOPEMENTS
THERE ARE MANY LOCATIONS AVAILABLE ON MAUI
JUST THINK ABOUT how you want your wedding to be, and what you’ll want to remember.
ONELOA BAY (Ironwoods)
KA’ANAPALI / KAPALUA
Right in the heart of Kapalua, with no need for long rides, Ironwoods became one of the most popular locations lately. Especially due to the variety of landscapes offered within the vicinity, and we can’t complain.
#PROS
Stunning variated scenery (Beach and cliffs).
Honolua Forest is in the vicinity.
(For an extra shooting location)It’s a long beach, with lots of cliffs to choose.
(If other shoots are happening, you’ll still find a spot)Great Whale lookout spot (During whale season)
#CONS
It has become very popular lately and there can be multiple weddings at the same time, and someone else could claim the best spot beforehand.
(But it’s a big beach)Parking can be tight.
(But there are more spaces in the vicinity)Weather is unpredictable, and it’s known to be a rainy area. (But it’s usually just passing showers)
PAIPU BEACH
WAILEA
It’s one of Po’olenalena’s secret beaches and you’ll love it.
It does require a “hike”, it’s quick and short, but could be a bit difficult for the elderly. Nothing major, but something to consider.
#PROS
“Secret” beach, so it’s not that crowded.
Hawaiian scenery with a sandy beach, lava rocks, and palm trees.
#CONS
It can get crowded on certain popular dates.
Not of easy access if you are coming with an elderly family member or someone with special needs.
PALAUEA BEACH (WHITE ROCK)
WAILEA
Another long beach easy to find a spot. It offers some sort of greenery to have variety during your photoshoot, and it has a great view of “Molokini” island.
#PROS
Long beach with two different backdrops to choose from. (Molokini Island or Maui mountains)
It has some greenery too!
#CONS
Can be a far ride if you are staying on the west side (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kapalua)
There can be multiple weddings running at the same time at popular dates/times.
MALUAKA BEACH
WAILEA
It’s a really nice beach where you’ll be able to see the sun set on the horizon.
There’s even a big lawn where you could have your ceremony officiated while having the beach as backdrop, which could be handy if you have a larger party attending.
#PROS
Long beach in case there are other ceremonies in place.
It has a grassy lawn area where you can officiate the ceremony
Sun sets in the horizon (except on some specific dates)
#CONS
There could be some other people nearby (not as bad as other beaches)
Not much variety of sceneries
MAKENA COVE (PAAKO COVE)
MAKENA
One of the most popular elopement beaches, it’s a beautiful tiny cove, but can get crowded during sunset.
Parking can be another problem during the busiest times.
#PROS
Beautiful tiny cove, with an amazing Hawaiian vibe.
Sandy beach, lava rocks, and palm trees.
#CONS
Another popular beach, so it can get really crowded and it’s a small cove.
(If you really like this beach, we strongly recommend an early morning ceremony)Limited Parking
D.T. Fleming BEACH PARK
KA’ANAPALI
Long Beach, and not as crowded (except on holidays), but you can get a few surfers in your ocean background since it’s a popular surfing spot.
#PROS
Long a beautiful beach, with cliffs as backdrops.
Optional Pine forest as greenery backdrop.
Near Honolua Bay Forest if you are planning a session in there too.
#CONS
The beach can get washed out and filled with natural debris after a storm.
Weather in Kapalua is unreliable.
BALDWIN BEACH
PAIA
If you are planning an elopement on the Northside of Maui, Baldwin beach is a great option. I’’s beautiful and you can get the ocean + the Maui mountains as a backdrop.
#PROS
One of the most stunning views on the north side, with the Maui mountains as a backdrop.
Long sandy beach with a side forest and palm trees.
#CONS
It’s known as a windy beach, so that’s something to be expected.
